“Democracy cannot succeed unless those who express their choice are prepared to choose wisely. The real safeguard of democracy, therefore, is education.”
-Franklin D. Roosevelt
Is the GOP visiting the same schools that the rest of us cherish in Williamson County? Our public schools are the crown jewels of the county—drawing business to our talented workforce and empowering our children to succeed in college, work and life. No county in Tennessee boasts better schools. (1)
Yet in a recent email to members, the Williamson County party members the GOP rails: “Help us put an end to political indoctrination!” while denying climate change and the need for and benefits of inclusivity. (2) Public schools embody our founding democratic values as places that give every child the tools they for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and should not be battlegrounds for partisan politics.
Odd numbered districts will elect school board members in 2020. If you live in districts 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 or 11 (find your district here) and are interested in serving on this nonpartisan board, we encourage you to consider running for office.
Williamson County Democrats join all those—regardless of political, philosophical, or religious persuasion—who will commit to the preservation of our excellent schools. Our children deserve nothing less.
In solidarity with our friends and family of the Williamson County School System,
Chair, Williamson County Democratic Party
